The mjccrimson Ratings: Wk 5

As of today, Washington (5-0) is still Number 1, despite a less than stellar showing over #78 Arizona. What appears to distinguish the Huskies from other teams is their September had teams like Boise State and Michigan State and they did very well against those teams. Everyone else was playing someone like Wagner, or in Alabama’s case, losing to a Top 5 team early, then playing their less than amazing backups against a team like South Florida. That putrid offensive effort (a fourteen point win…) looks a little better now than it did at the time (USF was #109 when we played them. Now, they’re #58 at 3-2).

Texas (5-0) and Michigan (5-0) are reflecting essentially the same in all polls (#2 and #3, respectively). I doubt Washington makes it past November alive: the meat of their schedule includes Oregon, USC, Utah, Oregon St and Washington St. I would almost bet the farm on Texas and Michigan representing; though there’s a lot of football left to play: Texas plays #8 Oklahoma this week, after all.

UNC (4-0), meanwhile, has also been holding steady in the Top 5, and nothing this week has changed that. Their major test will come against Miami, but don’t count out Syracuse, or Duke… or Clemson.

Penn St (5-0) is looking like a Top 5 team and could very be the B1G’s representative in the Playoffs, provided they find a way to beat both Ohio St and Michigan.
